Social Media Marketing is Like Grocery Shopping

Help me Mark, social media marketing is overwhelming! Can you relate? Are you in agony with the barrage of tweets, posts, emails, clicks, ticks, and blips? Yes, there is far, far too much. Social media can be overwhelming, but it does not need to be. Please consider it to be like grocery shopping. You need to do it. It could be overwhelming, but only if you let it be. Social Media Marketing is Like Grocery Shopping.
Social Media Marketing – You need to do it
I am not sure that anybody is excited about grocery shopping. You simply need to do it. It is a chore, and for all of us except those wealthy enough to have robot shopping servants, we must participate in this manual and unsatisfying task. Yes, simple grocery shopping could be overwhelming, but it does not need to be if you have a plan. Accept the fact that you need to do it, and enter the store with a plan.
Social Media Marketing – Shopping list
If you do your shopping with a grocery list, your shopping will be quick, cost effective and satisfying. Your shopping list is your plan. If you simply entered the store and walked around aimlessly and read every single label that caught your eye, you will be overwhelmed. This is social media. You do not need to pay attention to every single thing. One, it is not possible, and two, you will go crazy if you forget number one. Have a social media plan and execute that plan.
Social Media Marketing – Skip some aisles
Your grocery store is likely to be organized into aisles by some general category. You can ignore big areas of the store by understanding what these categories are. Let us say that you do not have a pet, nor to you have a baby. So, you skip the pet food aisle and the baby food aisle. You do not get any value from walking down these aisles. This will simply be a waste of your time. Please apply the same principle to your online marketing. If Twitter is not a good match for the demographics of your target market, then do not invest marketing resources there. Skip that channel to save time. You could also save time by picking when to do your grocery shopping.
Social Media Marketing – Know when to shop
I prefer to go shopping late at night. Try it. A Tuesday night at 10 PM is quiet at the grocery store and weekdays at 5:30 pm are packed. Everybody is stopping to shop right after they get out of work. You need to understand the high traffic times in your social media marketing. In marketing you want more eyeballs to see your messages, so posting at high traffic times makes sense. This is one of the most valuable tasks that we can perform for our clients. Social Media Marketing – Be convenient
I suspect that your grocery store has done some things to make your shopping experience more convenient. The might have include night hours, an express checkout lane, or even butchers who can customize a meat order. People are very busy and need convince in their lives. The same goes for your social media marketing. If you promote a product, please make it easy for me to understand what the product is and how to buy it. Just earlier today I opened a marketing ad from Facebook about a tool that I was intrigued to buy. I spent ten minutes searching for a price. Please focus on ease and convenience. If your ad is confusing, you just wasted your valuable time.

Good merchandisers know how to distract you with great packaging, and displays. Remember, that shopping list. It keeps you focused. If gourmet olives are not on the list, do not start looking at gourmet olives. A distraction causes you to lose focus. When you are placing a Facebook ad, your goal is to place the Facebook ad, not to gossip, or play on Facebook.
